Candles

Care - Candles

Upon first use of your candle, burn for at least two (2) hours or until the entire surface has turned to liquid wax. This will help to prolong the life of your candle. Trim the wick to 1/4" before each lighting to maintain an even and clean burn. Do not burn for more than 3-4 hours at a time or all the way to the bottom. When your candle gets to roughly 1/2" of wax left, discard any additional wax or wick and reuse the vessel for your needs. Extinguish your candle if it repeatedly smokes, the vessel gets too hot or the flame becomes too high. The candle isn't burning properly and you may need to trim the wick or it may have been burning for too long.

Always keep candles in sight when in use. Extinguish your candle flame when leaving a room or going to sleep. Keep all candles out of the reach of children or pets.

BEFORE BURNING

  • Keep the pool of wax free of wick trimmings and any debris at all times.

  • Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This will also help prevent possible heat damage to table surfaces.

  • Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting, and excessive dripping.

WHILE BURNING

  • I know you know this, but love, never touch or move a burning candle. Never move a candle container when the wax is liquified.

  • Don’t burn the candle all the way down. For safety measures, stop burning a candle when there is 1/2 inch of wax left in the vessel.

  • If the candle self extinguishes, remove the melted wax before re-lighting.

  • If burning multiple candles, place each candle at least three inches apart from one another. This is to ensure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts.

  • Extinguish the candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Before re-lighting, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts.

  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire & Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.

AFTER BURNING

  • Do not use water to extinguish a candle, this can cause the hot wax to splatter and could break a glass container.

  • Before leaving the room, make sure your candle is completely out and there is no glow coming from the wick ember.

  • Do not touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.

What safety tips should I know before using a candle?

  • Place your candle on a non-flammable, level surface with no drafts or vibrations or near anything that can catch fire and at least 3 in. from other candles

  • Trim the wick to 1/4  in. before lighting each time. If the flame is too high, flickers or smokes, stop burning the candle as the wick is too long. Wait until the candle has cooled fully then trim the wick

  • Keep your candle out of reach of children and pets

  • Remove any objects and debris from the wax

  • Never leave a lit candle unattended and don’t fall asleep with it still burning

  • To avoid tunneling ensure the melt pool covers the surface

  • Don’t burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time

  • Stop burning your candle when there is approximately 1/2 in. of wax left

  • Please read the safety label on the base of your candle before use and keep it there for future reference

Temperature Guidelines

Candles can be sensitive to extreme cold and heat, it’s best to store them between 50ºF and 75ºF. And be sure not to leave candles in your car for an extended period of time (particularly on hot days) as they may melt or discolor. Extreme cold causes cracking and separation, so it’s best to follow temperature guidelines. After long exposure to the cold, you should allow the candle to return to room temperature before burning it to minimize potential damage.

Trouble Shooting

  • If your flame is too high (over an inch) or candle begins to smoke: carefully extinguish candle, allow the candle to cool, trim wick to ¼ inch then remove all debris before relighting candle.

  • The wick won't stay lit: this occurs when the wick “drowns” in the wax pool. To fix this, extinguish candle and use a paper towel or cotton ball to soak up some of the wax around the drowning wick. Relight your candle and repeat until your wick can breathe and stay lit. You can also extinguish the candle, wait until the wax has hardened and use something (like a butter knife) to scrape up some wax around the wick then relight.
